Join Read Conmigo as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and the diversity, contributions and histories of the Hispanic community from September 15 through October 15th! Throughout the month Read Conmigo will feature a Celebración de Cultura presented by Kemper.

This year, Read Conmigo is honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with an array of exciting activities for families and educators. Here’s how you can join the celebration:

Christian De La Rosa

Christian joined Local 10 News in 2017 after spending time as a reporter and anchor in Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando, and Panama City Beach. He's covered an array of national interest stories, including hurricanes andwildfires. Christian has also done extensive reporting along the border, crossing into Mexico to bring viewers an in-depth look into our country's immigration crises. His love for travel and cultures has taken him to Africa, where he shot, wrote, and directed an award-winning documentary about the fight against poverty and AIDS in the region. Christian is a proud graduate of the University of Florida, where he received a bachelor's degree in radio and TV journalism and a minor in business. Most of his family, including his abuela, "Mamicuchin," live in the Sunshine State, but Christian grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Alan Ponce Duarte

Alan Ponce Duarte is an accomplished Mexican singer who began studying guitar and music theory at the age of thirteen. Since he was a child, Alan has dedicated himself to preserving the Ranchera musical tradition and passing it on to newer generations. He has performed internationally and has been on hit television shows like Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento and La Voz Kids. In 2015, Alan began working on his first record album, “Sin Más Ni Más,” which was later released nationally. Alan is also a Read Conmigo author. His children’s book is titled "The Mariachi Brothers" and it inspires kids to learn about Mariachi music.

Jasmine Liz Martinez

Jasmine is a multi-talented 14 year old girl, who has a deep passion for the arts. She currently attends Hialeah Gardens Senior High School as a 9th grade student in the Academy of Law Studies. She is 2019’s Young Talent Big Dreams Spoken Word Contest Winner, with her original piece titled 'America,' which can be found in her published book, “Kaleidoscope II.” Jasmine joined the Young Poets Society in Hialeah at 7 years old. Born with an innate desire to help Hispanics, Jasmine has collaborated with Read Conmigo as a Hispanic influencer since the age of 10. Jasmine is proud to serve as an inspiration to younger children by representing her Hispanic culture and promoting bilingual literacy in her community.

Valerie Barrera

Hispanic Content Creator

Sabores Latinos

Valerie is a Hispanic content creator who was born in Mexico. She grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and spent four years living on the Island of Puerto Rico where she met her husband. Valerie began her professional career in customer service, and later obtained her insurance license. She startedworking in inside sales, where she collaborated with insurance agents from across the country. Valerie is now a Commercial Vehicle Specialist for Kemper Commercial Auto for the State of Arizona. Valerie is proud to be a Hispanic mother and wife raising two bilingual children; Gianna, 9, and Esteban, 5.
